DESCRIPTION:
The Capacitor Discharger Ignition (CDI), controls the ignition timing of the spark plug electronically and thus initiates the fuel combustion in the cylinder. The capacitor of the CDI is supplied with voltage via the battery or coil and is continuously charged. The greatest advantage of a CDI is that it is low-wear and maintenance-free. Although they have a higher switching effort, they generate much stronger ignition sparks than coil ignitions. The disadvantage, however, is that due to the compact design of modern CDIs, the two-wheeler usually does not start at all in case of a defect.
