1886/87 gründete Carl Marschütz zusammen mit seinem Bruder die "Nürnberger Velozipedfabrik Hercules". Die Produktion war zunächst auf Fahrräder ausgelegt. Ab 1928 lohnte sich die Produktion von Motorrädern wieder und Hercules produzierte leichte Motorräder bis 200 cm³. Als 1930 bei Fichtel & Sachs in Schweinfurt die Fertigung von Motoren begann, wurden diese sofort bei Hercules verwendet.
Mit dieser Schaltgabel wird im Sachs 50/2 Motor der Wechsel zwischen dem ersten und zweiten Gang gemacht. Die Schaltgabel ist über Nutensteine mit der Schaltscheibe verbunden. Diese sitzt auf der Getriebehauptwelle zwischen den Zahnrädern für den ersten und zweiten Gang. Durch Ziehen des Schalthebels wird das Schaltrad auf das jeweilige Gang-Zahnrad geschoben und stellt damit eine Verbindung her.
