DESCRIPTION:
The speed limit for original ignition units is approx. 8,000 - 9,000 rpm. However, many exhaust systems or cylinder kits only start to unleash their power in this range. With this open CDI unit without rev limiter from our own brand Citomerx, you can also exploit the full potential of your bike, as the optimally adapted ignition curve offers a further performance boost.
Can also be used with untuned engines to de-throttle the vehicle.
An absolute must for tuning projects at a top price-performance ratio!
CDI? Never heard of it?
The CDI (=capacitor discharge ignition) is an electronic switching form which triggers an ignition pulse without contact, usually faster than other instruments.
The energy for this is supplied by a capacitor, as the energy is available more quickly, an additional increase in speed is achieved.
A distinction is made between two types of CDI:
- Standard, throttled CDI: the CDI cuts out at approx. 8,000 rpm, there is no further acceleration
- Open, tuning, racing, sport CDI: the CDI does not cut out, the engine can continue to rev up and develop its full potential.
A further distinction lies in the type of voltage supply to the CDI:
- AC version: the CDI is operated with alternating voltage (directly from the alternator)
- DC version: the CDI (like most other components on the vehicle) requires direct voltage. For this purpose, a voltage changer is installed somewhere between the alternator and the battery, to which the CDI is then connected.
The following applies as a distinguishing feature:
If the vehicle can be started with the kick starter without a battery, an AC CDI is installed.
