Die Hercules-Werke sind 1886 gegründet worden und stellten seit 1928 leichte Motorräder her. Das Unternehmen gehörte in den 1930er Jahren zu den größten Herstellern der Nürnberger Zweiradindustrie. Verbaut wurden in den Hercules Fahrwerken Motoren von Fichtel & Sachs.

Der Kickstarter ist eine fußbetätigte Anlassvorrichtung bei motorisierten Zweirädern. Durch einen kräftigen Tritt auf den Kickstarterhebel wird die Kurbelwelle auf die zum Start benötigte Drehzahl beschleunigt. Die Verbindung zwischen Hebel und Kurbelwelle bzw. Getriebe, stellt die Kickstarterachse dar. Sie ist 181 mm lang und passend für Sachs 50/3 und 50/4 Motoren.
