Did you know that the name of the traditional brand Zündapp is composed of two separate abbreviations? Namely from Zünd- for igniter and -app for apparatus, which stands for Zünder- und Apparatebau-Gesellshaft m.b.H.. The company is better known, of course, as Zündapp-Werke GmbH. From 1921, motorcycles were manufactured in Nuremberg.

This transmission mainshaft, or layshaft, is equipped with four gears, making it suitable for a Zündapp 4-speed engine. The shaft transmits torque to the shift shaft, which in turn is connected to the chain pinion.
