Schon 1937 entwickelte Fichtel & Sachs einen Zweitakt-Einbaumotor für Fahrräder. Dieser 60 ccm "Saxonette" Motor wurde von vielen Herstellern in Lizenz gebaut. Die zweite Baureihe der Saxonette Fahrräder wurde 1987 in Deutschland unter dem Label Hercules eingeführt. Der neue Sachs Typ 301 Motor mit 30 ccm leistet 0,7 PS. Das Leichtmofa wurde bis 2011 gebaut.

Der Gasschieber ist für die Kraftstoff-Luft-Gemisch-Menge verantwortlich, welche zum Verbrennungsraum im Zylinder gelangt. Durch Ziehen des Gaszuges wird der Gasschieber im Vergaser nach oben gezogen und die Fläche, durch welche die Luft strömen kann wird größer.
