The name Zündapp-Werke GmbH comes from the founding company "ZÜNDer-APParatebau-GmbH", which Fritz Ludwig Neumeyer founded in 1916 together with two partners. Until 1921, they mainly produced armaments for artillery purposes. From this time on the production of motorbikes and engines was in the foreground and in 1922 the first machines could be sold. Over the years the production increased and Zündapp became one of the five most important motorbike factories in Europe.
