Das erste Modell aus der über 60-jährigen Geschichte von Yamaha Motor ist die "YA-1". Diese wurde im Februar 1955 fertiggestellt und ausgeliefert.

Der Kolbenring ist nicht kreisrund und auch nicht geschlossen. Erst im Einbauzustand wird der Ring in Kreisform gedrückt. Zu seinen Aufgaben zählen die richtige Dosierung des Schmieröls, die Ableitung der Verbrennungswärme und die Abdichtung des Arbeitsraumes.
