Der Benzinhahn ist wichtig für Maschinen, die sich den Sprit vom Tank in den Vergaser durch den Hahn ziehen. Die Konstruktion des Benzinhahnes ist simpel. Es wird einfach mittels der Schwerkraft Benzin vom Kraftstoffbehälter zum Vergaser transportiert.
Die Spitversorgung kann bei einem defekten Benzinhahn auch zu einer Über- oder Unterversorgung des Vergasers führen. Zu einer Überversorgung kommt es, wenn der Benzinhahn undicht ist. Die Dichtungen können verhärten, austrocknen, spröde und porös werden. Eine Unterversorgung ist dann der Fall, wenn der Kraftstoff nicht den Benzinhahn passieren kann. Schuld daran ist meist eine Verschmutzung des Hahns.
