In a variomatic transmission, a centrifugal clutch ensures the frictional connection between the transmission itself and the rear axle or rear wheel. Here, as the engine speed increases, the centrifugal forces that increase ensure that the jaws of the clutch are pressed outwards against the clutch bell housing. These shoes are held back by springs so that they only close the clutch above a certain speed.
Tuned scooters in particular usually only have their maximum power above the standard clutch engagement speed. In order to achieve the best performance from starting to stopping, you need to install harder springs so that the clutch only engages at the desired performance speed.
