The main jet ensures that the exact right amount of petrol is always available for premixing. If the main jet is changed, it mainly affects the middle and upper speed range. If it is set too small, the engine dies under full load and/or runs so lean that the piston and cylinder overheat and cylinder damage is the result. If, on the other hand, it is set too high, the mixture becomes too rich, the engine runs very roughly and can only deliver a fraction of its possible power.
